The Sheridan Story fights child hunger through community and school partnerships, due to a strong need in our community. The nonprofit organization is located in Roseville, MN. However, it serves throughout the Twin Cities area. Mainly, they focus on the food gap. As a result, the Sheridan Story discreetly provides food in backpacks for students to take home. The food provided to students is sourced with healthy options in mind. Many of the food packages have cultural and other dietary options. The Sheridan Story is highly dependent on the kindness of volunteers. We showcases the dedication of volunteers at one of their community-wide packing events through this video.

The Challenge:

The Sheridan Story relies on support from faith groups, businesses, volunteers, and community organizations to fight food insecurity for children in the Twin Cities. A video was one way to garner more community support. CTV amplified their message to be heard by a larger audience, through social media, web, and cable outlets. Subsequently, we also highlighted the volunteer opportunities.

The Approach:

CTV interviewed Sheridan Story staff member Jonathan Turner, about the mission and purpose of the organization. We chose to shoot the interview in front of an active packing event. The activity behind Johnathan increased the energy of the piece, while still communicating the purpose and the mission. The volunteers engaged in the packing event are having fun and helping their community.

The Solution:

The final 4 minute piece explained the mission, the partnerships within the community, and the different needs the organization has. It also showcased a fun, volunteer experience that large groups or individuals could do together.
