How to Attract the Right Candidates to Your Team

The business world is fierce and competitive, and this also applies when it’s time to hire the best candidates. These tips will help you attract the right candidate for your team.

The ideal candidate

Before starting your recruitment campaign, the first step to help you have a successful search is to identify the ideal candidate. You have to define what the perfect candidate for the position and your company should be. What are the abilities and skills that you need, and what interpersonal skills you think will make a great employee?

Also, define in which areas you can compromise. For example, maybe you find a candidate with the right skillsets and profile for the job, but who doesn’t have the years of experience you were looking for. Are you able to be flexible about that?

You can also talk with your ongoing employees to learn more about their team dynamics. This will help you identify which candidates will be able to work well with the existing team. Overall, job openings can have up to a few hundred applicants. Having a checklist of what makes the ideal candidate will help you sort through them and find the best.

The right job description

As mentioned above, job posts can get hundreds of applicants, which makes it difficult to sort them. Today’s tools, like job boards and other online platforms, make applying really easy. So, it would help if you did everything you can to make the process easier, and creating the right job description is one of those things.

An excellent job advertisement should attract the best candidates and discourage unqualified ones. Give clear information about what the responsibilities will be and the skills needed. In the job description, you should make an attractive job title. You can be as creative as you like, even companies like Google or SAP are doing it. They both have hired an innovation evangelist in the past.

It will also help if you include information like location if it is a full-time position and for how long, salary, and a description of the company. As an added plus, you can give a description of the ideal candidate to narrow even more the possible applicants. But be sure not to add too much information or candidates may never read it. There has to be a balance between precise and straightforward information.

Use the right platforms

Now that our world is more digital than ever, recruitment has moved to online platforms like many other aspects of our society. Take advantage of these platforms and online job boards to attract the right candidates to your team. For example, some of the most popular platforms are LinkedIn, ZipRecruiter, Indeed, and Glassdoor.

All of these let you post a job opening and let you add a direct link for candidates to apply. LinkedIn allows candidates to apply through their platform if you don’t have a platform on your own. They also offer a lot of other resources to make your recruitment go smoothly. Use these platforms to optimize your job advertising.

Another thing you can do is to use the targeted job boards. These are platforms that cater to specific niches or industries. For example, if you are looking for app developers, you can post on Stackoverflow Jobs, which is a platform for tech professionals.

Offer competitive salaries

One thing you have to make sure you include in your job opening is competitive benefits. Competitive benefits and salary is a must for every company trying to attract the best candidates to their team. If you offer less than any other company in the industry, you will probably end up with the less qualified applicants.

This doesn’t mean you have to offer the highest salaries in the industry. But at least high enough, so applicants consider your company as an option. For example, you can research front end developers’ salaries and see what the average is.

Highlight company culture

Professionals nowadays, especially the younger generations, care more about the company’s culture than other things like crazy high salaries or a bonus. For example, many millennials prefer to work for a company that aligns with their values than have a higher salary.

Twenty percent of Millennials say Google is their ideal employer, and it is mainly because of the company’s culture and that they put effort into creating a brand as an employer. If you don’t know where to begin, hiring a digital marketing or a recruitment agency may help you.

Reach out to candidates

If you are still having difficulty attracting the right candidate after applying all these tips, you have another option. If the mountain does not come to Muhammad, then Muhammad must go to the mountain. Reach out to the candidates you think will be best.

Quick research on online platforms will give you thousands of potential candidates. You can compare each of them to your ideal profile and define who will be best. Reach out to them and make them a proposal. Even if they have a job, they could take your offer if it is tempting enough.

Optimize your website

Another thing you can do to make the whole recruitment process go smoothly is to optimize your website to apply through there. Applicants will be able to search for job opportunities, see description and all necessary information, and use all through your platform.
