Fair & Secure Elections: Behind the Scene Navigation presented by League of Women Voters (RV) and Do Good Roseville
How does the State of Minnesota secure our elections in this increasingly complex and technical world further challenged by artificial intelligence?
Bill Ekblad is a native of south Minneapolis and graduated from the U of M before his commissioning as an officer into the U.S. Navy. During his nearly-27 years on active duty as a Navy cryptologist and Information Warfare officer, he served all over the world, on ships, aircraft, and ashore, in various operations and staff duty roles. His final assignment before retiring as a Navy captain in 2019 was with the National Security Agency in a cybersecurity leadership role, which included a 6-month deployment to Afghanistan. Upon retirement, Bill returned home here to Minnesota and joined the team of Secretary of State Steve Simon, becoming the office’s first Election Security Navigator. The office’s Navigator program works with county and local elections and IT officials to raise awareness of security threats to elections, and highlights available resources through federal, state, academic, and non-profit partners to lower risks.
